Integrating Map Layers from ArcGIS

This article explains how map layers created in ArcGIS can be integrated directly into Clarity Human Services.

Two methods are available for adding map layers into Clarity Human Services:

  • Uploading map layers from a computer, as described in our Configuring Map Layers article.
  • Importing or adding map layers directly from ArcGIS, as described in this article.
    • Importing” = bringing in all the layers that are visible to the user in ArcGIS.
    • Adding” = manually selecting which layers to bring into Clarity.

The following types of ArcGIS map layers can be imported or added to Clarity Human Services:

  • Feature Service
  • Vector Tile Service
  • Map Service
  • Feature Collection
  • GeoJson
  • CSV

Entering ArcGIS Credentials

Before a user can add or import a new map layer directly from ArcGIS, the user’s ArcGIS credentials must be entered into Clarity:

  • Navigate to SETUP > SETTINGS.
  • Click Integrations in the Advanced Options sidebar.

  • The user entered an incorrect ArcGIS username/password into Clarity.
    OR

  • There are no layers in the user's ArcGIS gallery to import (or no layers are shared with the user).gallery 2

Title: Enter the name of the layer.

Thumbnail: The thumbnail URL is not used anywhere in Clarity Human Services; however, it is a required field on this page, so enter any value you like for this field.

Access: Select the option that describes the visibility of this layer within your “organization” (your group of users within ArcGIS):

  • “Private”: Only the user who created/owns the layer has access to it.
  • “Shared”: A user (inside or outside of your organization) shared this layer with you.
  • “Organization”: Any user within your organization has access to this layer.
  • “Public”: Everyone can see the layer (even users out of your organization or guests without any credentials).

Click SAVE CHANGES.

The layer will appear on your EDIT INTEGRATION USER page, and can be edited or deleted as needed.

layer added

Add or import any additional layers as needed.

The layers you add/import will then be available for use in the LOCATION tab and Outreach module.

Tip:  Instead of manually ADDING individual layers, you may find it more efficient to IMPORT all of the layers that are visible to you in ArcGIS, and then delete any of the imported layers that you do not wish to show in Clarity.
