Clarity Human Services: December 2016 Feature Update

Clarity Human Services is excited to announce another feature update! This feature update further enhances the functionality and security of Clarity Human Services. As such, it is important to review this article in order to understand these changes. Each update is explained in detail below.

This update primarily features changes in regards to the new HUD 5.1 XML Data Standards as we are continuously working to ensure Clarity Human Services maintains compliance with HUD’s standards. We have also improved the “Link from History” feature for program enrollment regarding bed reservations. Finally, additional security enhancements have been made to the Clarity Human Services system.

1. HUD 5.1 XML Update to ServiceItemID Element

In preparation for the release of the new HUD 5.1 XML Data Standards, we have modified the import process to make the Clarity Human Services XML element ServiceItemID an optional item. The import process will still function the same way if the XML being imported still contains the ServiceItemID. This element is used when exporting and importing from one Clarity Human Services instance to another Clarity Human Services instance.

If you’re importing a HUD 5.1 XML file via the DIT interface that doesn’t contain a ServiceItemID, the system will auto-generate a ServiceItemID and then allow you to map your data to the corresponding Service in Clarity Human Services.

Example of XML Element:

<hmis:ServiceItemID>123</hmis:ServiceItemID>

2. HUD 5.1 XML Imports

In preparation for the release of the new HUD 5.1 XML Data Standards, we have modified the DIT/RESTAPI import process to ensure compliance with the current XML standards, which is pending final release and sign-off by HUD.

While we will release the XML 5.1 import process, we do want to stress that the process may change slightly based on any final modifications HUD may make to the 5.1 XML Data Standards.

For additional information on the HUD 5.1 XML Data Standards, please refer to the documents listed under HMIS Data Exchange Resources.

3. Bed Reservation Adjustments for New Reservations

Bed reservations can span 180 days and have gaps in dates. If a user wants to use the “Link from History” feature for a program enrollment, they may want to only link the portion of the bed reservations that are during the project enrollment dates, and NOT the whole time frame. This feature enhancement allows the user to only link bed reservations that are relevant to the project enrollment and not from all time.

4. Security Enhancements

As part of Bitfocus’ commitment to providing the best HMIS security in the industry, we are continuously reviewing and improving Clarity Human Services to ensure we use the latest security technologies to ensure all data is secure.
